DOMESTIC WATER-TREATMENT
Domestic water-treatment The treatment of the water consumed to satisfy our nourishment purposes is of overriding importance. Our reserves of water -due to the load of environmental pollution and the constrained use of sterilization chemicals- contain several substances that are advisable to be eliminated. There are widely known substances harmful to health such as nitrate, arsenic, heavy metals etc. and also there exist several other undesirable pollutants like trihalo-methanes, chlorine-amines that are less known and which originate mainly from the chlorination of the water. These pollutants are avoidable due to their carcinogenic effects. Our household appliances (such as washing-machine, washing-up machine, boiler, heater and taps etc.) represent more and more considerable value. We can do a lot towards the protection and conservation of their condition if we use even very simple devices (eg. filters) as due to this we can lengthen ther lifetime and prevent their breakdown. If we take this as a main principle, a complete water-treatment system comprises the following elements: · Mechanical filtration (to remove floating and settling substances) · Prevention of scale-formation NOT by softening · (Sometimes nitrate-, and iron-removal)
